She has been running a fever for the last two days and I can’t help but panic as this is the first time she ever had temperature reaching 39++. Even when she got cold, or was teething, or just had a jab- she's never had a temperature more than 38 degrees. So this is a first for all of us.
I barely slept the night before as I watch her twitch coz of the high fever. I myself feel helpless coz I cannot do much for her except for the occasional dab of cold water, round the clock watch, and administering the meds. It came to a point that I even had to wake my mom up for fear of convulsion when her temp reached 39.7. Its bad enough that I can’t do anything to ease her pain, but not knowing what to do is just so frustrating. It’s the worst feeling ever. (And fever pa lang yan ha)
Well, by God’s grace the fever has gone down slight a bit, and she’s as active as ever again today. I also thank God kasi although she’s sick, her appetite was normal and she didn’t have trouble taking her medicines. I spoke to the doctor this afternoon and her urine sample shows that her fever is caused by an infection on her urinary tract. We'll get a thorough explanation though, once the culture test result is released by the laboratory in two days. She said there’s really no need to worry about it as it commonly happens to children . I couldn't accept it at first because we have been very careful with nappy change, washing after poop, water feeding, food and fruits- but she explained that bacterias are everywhere and almost all children gets infected at one point.
The doctor prescribed an antibiotic which she needs to take for 10 days, and on top of this- as long as there's high temperature she has to continue taking the paracetamol.
This incident made me realize a couple of things:
First no matter how careful we are with our babies, they’re still susceptible to viruses and infections.
Also, its very important for mothers to have presence of mind and the knowledge of course, on first aid and medical stuff.
Finally, although my daughter is healthy, she’s still a normal child who is vulnerable to ailments and diseased and mommy has to be equipped to get her through it.
Thank God for moms (Like mine) who is just a call away, well for my case next room away; whose expertise in childcare is always readily available at anytime.
